Went microfilming today at the downtown library. Advertising copy from The Columbus Dispatch, April 17, 1912 reads: “Unrivaled for cheapness” and “Our entire stock is marked at RUINOUSLY LOW FIGURES to secure quick sales”. Quite forward and harsh in contrast to a poetically embellished recounting of a Titanic survivor’s experience on another page…makes me wonder how ridiculous our modern day choice of words will appear in 100 years time.
