Gotta be honest, I never knew about this whole eating sauerkraut for good luck on New Year’s Day thing until moving to Ohio and being introduced to the world of friends and boyfriends with German immigrant roots. Slowly, one of the things I feared had most in life (yeah) — being the taste, smell and effects of sauerkraut — became a no-biggie. In fact, I almost crave the sour stuff these days. That said, today I was happy to read about Columbus blogger John Schumacher’s experience with making kraut at home.
